Automatic calculations and filling

Hello,

I wonder why I have to enter and/or calculate informations that the app could do automatically.

When I enter a run at a given hour for a given time in the app, the watch *knows* at what pace I was running, at what rate my heart was beating and how many steps I took during this period. Then why do I have to find, calculate and enter it myself?

  1. Is it a feature missing in the app, or I am missing something?

Thank you!

  • Is it a feature missing in the app, or I am missing something?

Yes, it is quite probable you missed something, but I cannot tell what, since you did not post any specific data or screenshots, that we could look at. Normally you do not need to enter anything, when you record an activity, so perhaps you indeed did not quite understand the right usage of your device. If you want some help form other users here on the forum, please post a more specific information and data.

  • If you're doing a manual activity entry, you have to manually enter any/all of the information - that's the intended behavior of manual activity entry. If you want to automatically pull information from your watch, you have to have the watch track an activity, you can't go back and add the activity later and then pull data from the watch, because the watch only records relevant information for the current activity mode (which is a lot less for general activity tracking than when you tell the watch you're doing a given activity - it does this to save battery power, with things like HR and location polling taking place at a much slower rate than when actively recording an activity and with fewer total data fields being calculated and recorded). So if you want your walking or running pace recorded by the watch, you need to start a walking or running activity on the watch, which will then be automatically imported into the app. There is a feature to try to do this automatically - MoveIQ - but there's a delay in recording activity data when it does properly detect an activity, and the activity detection itself is inconsistent.

  • Thanks to both of you for your answers. Here are some screenshots and explanations...

I added manually an activity this morning. I didn't ask my watch to follow it, but it kept track of everything anyway. You can see the number of steps, the heart rate graphic with max and min for the four last hours, the average heart rate for a selected time, and the max and min heart rate for a selected time. So, the app *knows* everything it needs to know! Then, why doesn't it use it???

  • You need to start the Activity on your watch in the moment when you start your workout, and to stop it, when you finish the workout. Only in that way all respective data will be associated with the activity and properly recorded. It won't work for activities created manually after the workout.
