Walk Indoor Activity

The walk indoor activity does not record nearly the distance that is displayed on my treadmill. Treadmill shows 3.6KM, Garmin shows 0.6. I know I can edit it afterward. I don't know why it can accurately record my steps on the treadmill, but not when I use the specific walk indoor activity?

  • The treadmill itself can measure the distance easily by sensors, but there is no way the watch could measure the distance when not being outdoors and not using GPS. Hence it only estimates the distance by the average stride lenght. Not sure about the Indoor Run activity, but when you select the Treadmill Activity, the watch calibrates the stride length at the first use. Read more about the calibration in the Support document How Does the Treadmill Calibration Feature Work on My Garmin Watch?

Thank you. Is it not odd that it can accurately track my distance for the day based on my steps, but not at all accurately using the Indoor Walk activity?

Looks like the issue might also be that I like to hold the front handholds when on the treadmill.

Of course, that's an issue. There is no way the watch could detect your steps while you are holding on the handholds. Attach the watch to your ankle, if you cannot walk normally, with hands moving.
