Typing registers steps

Hi,

When I am typing at my desk my new Garmin is detecting it as steps. Is there any way to stop this?

  • Is there any way to stop this?

Type less violently Slight smile Never happened to me, and I am sitting behind the keyboard all day long. I use the fingers only, my wrists are laid on the keyboard when I type, without any significant movement, so the accelerometer on the watch cannot detect any motion.

However it is clear it would be difficult to relearn your typing style. Perhaps the other hand would be more stable during the typing - try attaching the watch to the other wrist. If it does not help, you can let the watch on the desktop (not having any HR though, as the consequence), or attaching it to your ankle (having so the HR, but not seeing the watch face).

  •  I think the issue is not keyboarding, which requires little effort, but actual old school typing, especially on a manual typewriter, which does require strength and force.  My Garmin does not count keyboarding which is not at all athletic, and does count steps with manual typing and piano playing .  The only answer I can think of is to create a typing activity and log it…?  Or remove the watch.  I haven’t tried the former yet, but I know the latter works.
