When starting the ride Activity on the device, did you wait till the GPS symbol displayed GPS position locked? It is usually better waiting a few minutes more (so called "GPS soak" time) that the device acquires also some redundant satellites, and that the position is more accurate, and starting only then. Also make sure that GPS is not accidentally disabled in the settings of the Bicycling Activitity.
