Why do apps in Connect IQ tell me that my Vivoactive 3 requires an update and ask me to use Garmin Express to update my device?
I believe I'm on the latest version 7.30.
Many thanks !!!

Try asking the author of the app you are trying to install, or post your question to the Vivoactive 3 forum - there will be more users familiar with your device, and perhaps having an experience with the same issue.
ConnectIQ is a framework for custom applications, made by users.
Garmin can develop Apps as they want, "we" can only rely on that framework. It will frequently be updated to support newer devices and to introduce new features.
At some point, normally after the device is out of support, gamin end up updating the ConnectIQ version on that watch.
In our case the VA3 (introduced more than 2 years ago).
Now, the App developer has updated to a newer version of Connect IQ, but the VA3 is not compatible to that version, anymore.
The messages is maybe a bit deceptive, because you cannot update your watch.
Thank you very much for your reply. Agreed, the messages are a bit misleading. They don't make it clear when you buy the watch that support will end soon. Well, why should it be any different than phones. This is my first smart watch, only bought it ca. couple of months ago. It works well except for the Connect IQ issue but I can live without it. Next time I'll buy something with a longer best before date.
Again, thank you very much for taking the time to reply.
Kind regards !!!
You could still try contacting the author. I do not have the experience with IQ development, but I guess he could give you an older version of the app built with the older SDK version, compatible with your device.
Hi trux, thanks for the tip. I was only after a nice digital, configurable watch face, and after a thorough search I found one I like. It was last updated beginning of May and I assume it was developed with the older SDK as I was able to install it without issues. Happy days.
