App improvement - activities not awarded intensity minutes that should

Seems inappropriate that it is possible to get intensity minutes for a 20 min ab workout but none for a 9km 1h long mountain bike ride which was way harder. Need to revamp the intensity minute concept or include biking. Unless I am missing something.

  • All depends on your HR, and the HR zones table. Please share the concerned activity and post a link to it here, so we can tell you where the problem is. Or check out the section Time in Heart Rate Zones on the screen with graphs of that activity. If there is no time spent in the zones 4 or 5, then you won't get any activity minutes (not sure now whether the zone 3 counts or not, but you'll see). So either your effort was not strong enough, or the HRM did not measure your HR well, or the definition of your HR Zones for cycling is not well adjusted (in your User Profile).

Well my watch does not take my heart rate so I'm not sure if any of what you said makes sense?

  • If you have some old model without a HRM, then it is possible it does not support the feature of calculating intensity minutes. Some models do even without HRM, but then instead of HR, the step rate has to be elevated above the threshold that is considered moderate intensity during at least 10 minutes.

Read more about it in the document How Does the Intensity Minutes Feature Work on My Garmin Watch?

Have a look at the bottom of that document for the list of devices compatible with the feature of Intensity Minutes.
