Calories burn while activity seem kind of low.

The number of calories burned while running using my Garmin Vivo 4s is lower than if I use a smartphone app.

For 4km its telling me that I burn 50 to 60 calories less.

How are the calories calculated and why does it seem so low?

  • Unlike a smartphone, the watch does not make estimates using just the steps, but it actually measures your HR during rest, and during the activity, and then, from the difference, it calculates the energy consumption.

  • If it is too low for your expectation, then it is possible that your Resting HR was not properly measured. That happens usually, when you do not wear the watch 24/7, or when you use to turn off the HR sensor.
