Steps not recorded

  • Just completed a 2 mile run and not a single step was recorded. I needed these for my weekly step challenge which i now have still not achieved. Is there any way to get my steps back. It records the run and route taken however im stuck on 1k steps for the day which just isn't right.
  • Is it the watch that stops recording the steps, or is there a problem with the synchronisation? Could you post a screenshot of your daily steps progress from the Garmin Connect Web interface?

It was the watch that stopped recording the steps. The only way i could rectify this was to turn the watch off and on again. This solved the issue but did not record the 2 mile run i had done.

I had the same problem for my life policy I had to achieve my goal everyday and my watch just stop tracking after a while stopped recording my sleep had no notifications come through to my watch. Now I lost all my progress and achievement benefits due to this anyway to rectify this?

Hard to tell, but from the sympoms you describe, it looks like the connection between your watch and the phone does not work. Did you try syncing over the USB cable to a computer with Garmin Express instead? You can also have a look at the Sync / Connection Troubleshooting Guide

  • This has happened to me this morning.  My normal 5800 step wall has recorded just 1800 steps. It's normally around 55 minutes but only 20 mins has registered. I can manually add the walk but I can't get back these lost steps. I am part of 2 step count challenges, and there's no way I am going to now meet my step count for the day, ruining a long run of meeting my goal. It's not a sync issue as the steps have synced, they are just not recorded on the Vivosmart 4. I am so annoyed.

  • I am afraid I do not quite understand the issue. What is the "step wall" in this sentence, for example?:

My normal 5800 step wall has recorded just 1800 steps

And also how do you know you did 5800 steps if you tell they are not recorded on the Vivosmart 4?

You could try to check whether there is some room remaining on the device storage - that could be one of the reasons why the monitoring file, containing the step counts is not being updated. Also check out the Device Sync Audit in Garmin Connect Mobile Menu » Settings, and watch for errors and warnings.

  • Sorry, autocorrect.

My usual 5800 step walk.  That is every morning I walk the same route which gives me approx 5800 steps. This morning it has recorded just 1800. Same route so I know how many steps it should have been. They are just not there.

I started the watch to record the activity and ended it after 55 minutes but it only recorded a 20 minute activity.

It's like there was a black hole where nothing registered even though I was wearing the tracker.

  • By any chance did your vivosmart vibrate sometime in the middle of the activity? The one time something similar happened to me a few years ago was when my watch crashed and reset itself. It was toward the end of an activity and everything for that day was lost except that when it rebooted, my activity was still running but steps started counting again from 0.

Connect the device by the USB cable and in the properties of the drive, check the free space. If it is low, delete the files in the folder //GARMIN/Activity
