Garmin Connect - Sorry, we are unable to verify your location at this time.

Hello,

Just bought a forerunner 935 wathch. Watch itself does work but when I tried to install Garmin Connect on my phone ( Xiamo Mi A1 running Android 9 ) I'm stuck at the location verification process. I've enabled localisation both on the phone and for the app. Is there something else I'm missing? Anyone else has this issue?

Haven't seen it yet. Is it coming from the app, from the OS, or on the watch? You can perhaps try going out and turning on the GPS on the watch for a while, though I doubt, it is the problem. Could you post a screenshot showing the message?

it's from the app, asks me to confirm my country of residence then the error message. I can't get pas it

In the Connect mobile app go to Settings >> Profile and Privacy >> Manage Garmin Account >> Account Details. What does it say for "Location"?

Try going out and acquiring your position with GPS. Perhaps, for some reason, the cell trigonometric and wifi localisations do not work. And please re-verify that location services are really enabled in your phone, and permission granted to Garmin Connect Mobile.

... another reason could perhaps be the inability to verify the location of your IP address. Are you connected over mobile data, or over a local WiFi router? Try the other method, than till now. Do you use some kind of VPN, proxy, or an anonymizer? If so, try turning it off.

I've checked location services, all ticked on, tried with and without wifi, resetting network, restarting the phone. It's really weird because wether location is disabled or enabled I get the same error message. Also Connect does not show up in the log of apps that used the location service on the phone. It's like it's not even trying. So far I've only found another person with the same problem on reddit.

Did you try it on another phone (i.e. an older device you had before, or a phone of a friend) ? Just to see whether it is related you the local network, or rather just to your phone model or configuration.

Any security apps installed on your phone, such as anti-virus, spam filtering, firewalls, VPN,...? If so, try turning them off, for the testing.

If nothing helps, contact the support (and let us know what the resolution was).
