Shoe equipment

Adding equipment has to be done BEFORE you use it. If I want to add running shoes to a exercise what happened yesterday, and the shoe wasn't in the equipment list at that time is is impossible. Dating it back when adding is not possible.
I am running much longer than Garmin Connect exists, and I have some pairs of shoes that are not in the list.

And: If you want to give the shoes a realistic lifetime which is not 400 miles = 644 kms then you can't type it in, you have to pull on a wheel for some minutes.

  • Personally I never had problems setting a past date to my gear and having Garmin Connect assign the gear automatically to all past activities of the selected type from the given date to the most recent one. What makes you think it is not possible?

Edit: I do it in Garmin Connect Web, so perhaps there is some limitation in the phone app, but if you do it in Garmin Connect Web, it is easy.

    Thank you for your answer.

It is possible to set a date when you add a shoe. But if you don't do it it takes today's date. To add this shoe to an run of yesterday ist not possible, the date of first use is inactive. You have to delete this shoe and add it again with a date in the past.

  • Yes, you have to set the past date, when creating the gear. Normally the first use of the gear does not change in the real life, so there is no need to change it on the interface either. However, if you mistook and have set the wrong starting date, you can simply delete the gear, and create it again with the right date of the first use. You can then let adding the gear to all past activities since the given date automatically.

Thanks. I have done that, but I still see this a a workaround of a problem which might not occur very often. To be able to change the date would be much easier, especially because it meant that I  also had to set the mileage down which is possible but annoying if you want to set the kms from 644 down to 300.

  • I  also had to set the mileage down which is possible but annoying if you want to set the kms from 644 down to 300.

Sorry, I do not understand. As you correctly tell, changing the mileage is possible without recreating the gear, so why is it annoying?

With every new shoe I add, a proposal of 644 kms "Maximale Distanz" is given. Which as far as I understand should be the lifetime of the shoe in km. I normally can run my shoes up to 1000 kms, if it is new, or maybe only 200 km remaining if it is an old one which I had before. In order not to be simply a house number I change the given "644 km" to what I expect is the remaining kms of that shoe. So make the test, add a shoe in your app and change the "644" to "200" and you know what I mean wih annoying. It's at least a hundred swipes on your display....

  • I have plenty of shoes in Garmin Connect with the range varying between 500 and 2000 km. You can set the mileage as you want and whenever you want (even at old gear). Not sure for the phone app, but in the web interface it is no problem.

So we are talking of two different things. In the Connect Android App you have to scroll km by km up or won to change the value. This is no fun. But from now on I will do it in the web, if it's easier there.

    Thanks again!

  • Yes, I wrote since the beginning that I did it on the web. Personally I use the pohone app for quick monitoring and syncing only. Any editing or modifications, and reporting are much more complete and much more comfortable on the web version.
