Since 3 months, fenix 3HR wont connect to garmin connect in iphone ios 13.3.1

I have had my Fenix 3HR for about 3 years. Its a great watch, but pairing stops working constantly.

I have been trying for the last 3 months to connect.  I managed once, but 2 days later, the device disappeared from garmin connect again.

I have tired all the usual tricks: disable BT on each device, reboot, throw salt over shoulder etc.  Nothing helps.

For a while. the watch immediately connects to the phone, it shows as connected in the ios bluetooth settings, and it shows the number of notifications etc.

However, garmin connect app cant see the watch. I have tried to "pair" using the watches pair function, and the "add new device" process in the connect app, but it always fails.

Having rebooted both devices, disabled/enabled BT, forgot device etc, delete app, reinstall app, all those painful steps you have to go through every time you want to sync anything, the watch no longer even shows the notifications, let alone connects with garmin app.  Watch shows stuck in "connecting" to bluethoth, phone BT shows connected.

I have spent so many hours on this, it would pay for an apple watch.

Shame, as its the best watch on the planet, with the worst (ios) app connectivity.
