Garmin Connect Mobile Android battery drain

I am using an Android 10 Phone and Garmin Connect Mobile (4.29) uses a lot battery (~25% of all usage). A lot more than any other application or the screen. I have gave all needed rights to have notifications on the watch and also excluded GCM from battery optimization as it was retaining the notifications.

As far as I remember there was no huge drain with same settings with previous releases of GCM.

Does anyone experience the same?

  • I am just curious if this is a common issue or just impacting me.

As for now, I've seen just two posts of Android 10 users, so it is likely there is some new feature or restriction on Android…

  • Yes, there were some posts from other Android 10 users. The drain is apparently caused by frequent calls to the location service of Android. I'd recommend contacting your local Garmin Support and reporting it to them, or using the email address from the page of the GCM app in Google Play Store. It is quite unlikely anyone from Garmin would spot it here on the user forum.

  • Thanks for the reply.

I have sent a mail to the Play Store contact.

Continuous location services permission is needed for the Weather widget to be updated regularly on the watch. I already had a ticket for that issue. Slight smile

As for now, I've seen just two posts of Android 10 users, so it is likely there is some new feature or restriction on Android 10, forcing GC to loop the location requests. Check whether GC has the needed permissions to the location service.

  • Same issue here, killing my battery. Samsung Galaxy S10e - Garmin Forerunner 645

  • I have deleted all data from GCM app, uninstalled it and installed again. Since that it is eating less.

  • Guess my problem is an update which cannot be delivered to my watch, GCM keeps trying. Will see when i power up my watch tonight and the update is done. For now uninstalled the GCM app.
