My Garmin is not accurately counting steps when I push a stroller. It showed only 1,000 steps when it should have shown over 4,000.

  • My Garmin is not accurately counting steps when I push a stroller.

The device cannot count your steps if you do not move the hand, that the watch is attached to. Steps are detected with the use of an accelerometer, so if the typical patterns for a steps cannot be detected, there will be no steps detected, that's the absolutely logical consequence. Either keep it on a hand that is free, and continues to move, or attach the watch to you ankle, or just let it in your pocket. Even in the pocket, the steps can be detected (there is still both the vertical and horizontal acceleration), but when the watch is posed on the handle of the stroller, there is no chance to detect (almost) any steps.

  • If you can find a used Vivofit 2 or Vivofit 3, you can get belt clips for those to pick up on steps while using a stroller. Enabling TrueUp/Physio TrueUp should sync the step count between it and your primary device.
