Apparently, Garmin Connect doesn't work on Android Go edition. How then do I use my Vivosmart 4 with my 'phone?

My 'phone is an Alcatel 5001T. It runs Android 9 Go edition. Garmin Connect is missing from Play Store. What app should I use?

  • Indeed, GC App Minimum Requirements lists Android Go as incompatible:

"Phones that feature an Android Go edition operating system will list the Garmin Connect app as incompatible in the Play Store. This version of Android has limitations resulting in certain features not working with Garmin devices."

If your device has a USB cable, you can sync over the cable to the computer, using Garmin Express.

So the vivosmart 4 is unsupported? Thanks for that. Garmin can expect some unfavourable reviews.

  • Vivosmart is supported, of course. It is Android Go (your phone) that is not supported. Regardless of what Garmin device you use. And it is clearly listed on Garmin's website that Android Go is not compatible with the GC app, everyone can check it out before the purchase, so you cannot really blame Garmin for not informing correctly about the compatibility.

Semantics aside, Garmin has decided not to fully support the vivosmart 4. It looks like they've just given up on Garmin Connect. If they had no software that runs on Android Go, then your argument might hold water.

Semantics aside, Vivosmart 4 is irrelevant. Garmin decided not to fully support Android Go for any Garmin device, and they clearly state it on the App Minimal Requirement specification. And yes, they have no Garmin Connect Mobile application running on Android Go, regardless of that Garmin device you own.
