GPS battery drain

Hello. I have a Garmin Instinct that I am fully satisfied with, but I have a problem with the Garmin Connect app on my phone (Huawei Mate 20 Pro). Communication itself works without problems, but once in a while the location service (GPS) loops and the GC starts to drain my battery on my phone. Although it will help clear your app data and GC settings again, but I'm tired of doing it twice a week. Do you have a similar experience? Thanks for any advice.

  • Do you have a similar experience?

Personally I don't. Can't you simply stop GC (swiping it up in the task list), when you see it happenning? When you stop it, and the location service continues draining the phone's battery, there is probably a problem with the location service or with the OS, not with GC.

  • Thank you for reply. I can. I clear the GC cache, turn off the app, and then it works fine for a while. But about two days it repeats. Hauwei has quite thorough battery management, so it lists what application and how it drains the battery, so I'm pretty sure GC and its location services do it.

  • GC and its location services do it.

Location services are a part of the OS, that the application uses, they are not the part of the app, they are just being used by the app.

  • It is clear. But applications call themselves when they want location data using system API. Like navigation, etc.
The translation of the warning is: Often checks your location.
  • Yes, that's correct. The question is why it starts looping the checking of the location. A possible reason might be that it does not get the expected answer from the location services. Perhaps due to the optimizing options of the OS. Still, it is certainly something GCM could avoid. I recommend reporting it to Garmin. Use the email address found in Google Play Store, on the page of GCM, it is unlikely anyone from Garmin would spot it here.

  • Thanks. I'll try to write them.
