Possibility to not auto sync all your activities from Garmin connect to Strava?

I wanty bike rides annd runs on strava, but eg  not a walk or indoor exercise or breathing activity.

Is there a possibility that it asks permission for an upload. Or do you need to upload them manually?

Would be a good feature in a software update if not existing.

  • Looking for the same thing but haven't found an option:

Can I prevent Garmin from pushing my breathing exercises to Strava?!

No, you cannot. It is not Garmin that pushes data to Strava. It is Strava that reads data from the standard Garmin's API. And apparently they load all activities that are available there, without any filtering. Ask Strava to change their interface and to import only relevant types of activities. It is unlikely Garmin would filter the activities available on the API, since the API is used also by other 3rd party services, and hence there must be all the data, not only a limited subset.

  • Oh wow, thank you for the comprehensive answer, that's an interesting fact!

  • It is Garmin that pushes data to Strava. Suunto lets you chose what is uploaded to Strava:

    • Your Movescount account is now connected to your Strava account. What do you want to send to Strava?

      • All Moves (If the activity type is not supported by Strava, it appears in your Strava account as Workout.)
      • Only my rides (cycling, mountain biking)
      • Only my runs (running, trail running)
      • Do not send my Moves to Strava
  • What trux says is not true at all. Garmin DOES upload the activities to Strava. You clearly give Garmin Connect permissions to WRITE their data to Strava…

Personally I wish it would be possible to filter indoor trainings as well. That's Garmin's task to do…

  • It is still Strava that owns the integration and decides what they do with the data. Strava hasn't implemented the functionality to filter activity types. It could be so that Garmin doesn't support that function in the API so Strava got no possibility to add that function. The best start is to talk to Strava and ask them what is possible to do in the integration. Garmin will not make any changes to what Strava do.

  • Same wish here. I use my Garmin Edge as backup recording device to Zwift and also for dual-recording analysis. I would prefer if my "Indoor" profile rides weren't uploaded automatically to Strava as a courtesy to those who follow me.

  • Same wish here. I want to use my Fenix 7X to create a GPX track that I can use to geotag photos I take e.g. on vacations. Obviously those "activities" should not be uploaded to Strava as they are not of any interest to my friends on Strava.

  • You can automatically mute those activities and name them in a way so you find them easily to delete them or change privacy.

There is a service that can do that: https://activityfix.com/

I mute all activities shorter than 20 minutes.

Muting an activity means that your followers will not see it in their flows.

  • You can choose to have different privacy settings on different activities. Not sure if strata uploads activities with privacy settings set to "private"...?
