Vivoactive 3 Wrong elevation total

I have a vivoactive 3 and the last 2 really runs . The GPS adds up the elevation gain incorrectly . If i calculate the individual elevation gained per km it may add up to 260 m . But the app shows 3000 m of gain .not sure where it is getting this data from . Seems to have changed in the last week or so after an update to the system . Any thoughts anyone ?

From the barometric altimeter. Either you did not calibrate it, or the sensor orifice was clogged with dirt, water, or sweat, or there were sudden changes of atmospheric pressure, or stronger gusts of wind, or fast descent on a bike. Go to the activity page on Garmin Connect Web and activate the option Elevation Correction at the concerned activity (just below the photo of the watch, on the right side). It will then recalculate the elevation profile, averages, and totals, using geographic data instead of the altimeter.
