"activity tracker is required to participate in challenges"

Have two trackers, just updated to the most recent Android app.

Cannot join the public "weekly steps challenge" as, according to Garmin Connect, I have to buy a tracker.

  • Is this the wrong place to get Garmin employee eyes on this problem?

Yes, completely. Here you get help from other users.

As I wrote, simply use the web to join - it stays active as long as you do not leave the challenge, so you need doing it only once - it is no big hassle worth of losing nerves on it.

  • No nerves lost on it, and thanks for the info. I'll address my complaint to the nonexistent support folks, then downgrade the app to a release version where it still functions.

  • then downgrade the app to a release version where it still functions

I still do not understand why. You already joined the challenge on the web, so why do you want to downgrade the app now? You cannot access the challenge even after having it joined on the web? I just tried it with my GC app, and I can get to the Weekly Steps Challenge from it without problems.

  • I'm getting this error too (a year after this thread was started) and found this thread via search. My F6X has activity tracking enabled and is my preferred device in Connect.

Bummed to see this is still a problem, I guess I'll join the activity over the web (I never use Garmin Connect over web so it's a bit of a hassle).

  • Same situation today, app restart solved it.
