No Heart Rate Intense Moments and Over Calories

Since yesterday I've not been able to see my heart rate at highest point of my morning run , intensity moments , and my calories show I'm way over when I know I'm not .

I'm so not complaining by no means I am obessesed with my watch just wanted to see if anyone else has been having these issues .

Keep up the awesome work

  • Which Garmin device are you using?

  • There are many factors influencing the optical HR monitoring - among others the fit of the wristband, the tan of the skin, sweat, ambient light, temperature, periferal vasoconstriction, physiological conditions, etc, etc. Some of them may be tuned, but at some individuals there will be always conditions where the OHR would fail. If it is your case, and you need to rely on the HRM, you should use an HRM chestbelt, which uses electrodes and not OHR.

Also, heavy watches with metallic case like the Fenix, tend to be little bit less reliable due to the higher inertial forces, when exposed to higher acceleration rates (running, jumping, etc.), especially if the fit of the wrestband is loose. Lighter models with plastic case are less sensible to the motion. Finding the proper fit, position, and tightness is important. You can also experiment with positioning the watch on the inner wrist, on the other arm, or even on the ankle.

Some tips on improving the reading of OHR can be found for example in this document (scroll to page 6): https://images-eu.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/A1c0MzlpaBS.pdf

... I forgot to address this topic, so here you go too:

The calories calculation is based on the HR, so if there are problems reading your HR, it may be related. For the proper calculation you also need to enter correctly the gender, age, weight, height, and also the Activity Class in User Settings. And then you also have to wear the watch 24 hr/day, especially when sleeping, so that the device can record your average resting HR - that's a very important factor when calculating the burned energy, and Intensity Minutes during your activities.
