Are you working on adding Specialized aNGI support to the Garmin app or even to the Garmin edge devices?

The new helmets with aNGI crash detection use Bluetooth to connect to phone. Wahoo computers now support it so I am hoping Garmin is working on including it soon.

  • Garmin watches do not really need external ANGi crash sensors, since they work as crash sensors themselves. At least, most of the newer Garmin watch models do. And connecting an ANGi sensor to the watch would not make much sense - you need to connect such sensor to the phone, so that it can broadcast the emergency call, not to the watch, that can't make anything else with it, than just recording it.

  • But I use Garmin Edge for the bike (my Forerunner 945 is better for running/swimming and extended mode is limited). We should be able to connect ANGi to Edge - as a redundant accident detection system. I will use it anyway through my phone - so why wouldn’t Garmin want the bike computer to also include this redundant sensor? (Easier to have all sensors connected on Edge)

  • Edge has no connection to the external world, it can only connect to the emergency contacts through your phone, so connecting the sensor directly to the phone avoids one element in the chain, limiting so the probability of failure, which may be crucial at such equipment.

  • I am hoping for this. I don’t need another log unit :(

I don't think you understand the Angi sensor. In the event of a crash the Angi sensor will trigger and send out alerts to your emergency contacts via the specialized app on your phone. The request here is to be able to activate, deactivate and cancel the Angi sensor via the edge.

The Angi sensor is mounted to your helmet. A accelerator on your helmet is factors times more accurate than a wrist mounted / or unit mounted accelerator in detecting "true" crashes.

See link attached on how wahoo have implemented it: https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2020/01/hands-on-wahoo-adds-specialized-angi-helmet-sensor-integration.html

  • I perfectly understand the ANGi sensor. Slight smile

I will start using it when I don’t have to use an extra app or s/w on my phone. (Start/stop/register my ride etc)

i want it integrated as a sensor (just like any other) in the Garmin devices I have. Since it’s using BT it’s a matter of two companies working together giving users the best experience and safety possible.

Sorry mate, previous message not at you, but the previous guy.

Keen to have Angi connectivity with Garmin as well

  • Would also like to see something similar to the wahoo integration.

  • I think it makes sense to have this integrated, Garmin integrated the Strava and Garmin beacons, having got hit by a 4x4 turning right when I was in front of him and not looking the other week with enough force to break off his mirror and total my bike, my Garmin Edge 810 did not detect an incident I'm keen to have additional protection from something like an Angi, especially if this is possible without running loads of apps which then the phone could put to sleep and it not work.

Personally I would like to see the Edge talking to the smart watch Vivoactive/forerunner etc and also the Angi to build up a picture if you have had an accident and take take action.

I would like this feature as well!  Don't let Wahoo pass you by, Garmin!
