Piggyback GPS data

I want to set up this question by describing my situation.

My wife and I are about to do a 12 hour endurance race. I have the fenix 5xplus and she has the forerunner 245.

We want to track the run and listen to music the whole time. My watch battery should have no issue doing this but i suspect running both the GPS and music will drain her battery.

Is there anyway for her to piggyback off my GPS data?

We will be running together the whole time.

  • I do not think it is possible, and I think it would still not be possible to listen music on it 12 hours and being in an activity (the GPS is not the only device increasing the consumption during an activity). If you carry the phone with you, she could listen the music on it, instead of using the watch. Connecting both earphones on your watch is also not well possible - you'd need a BT splitter or a broadcaster - it's likely easier and cheaper to take a small mp3 player with you, if you don't carry the phones.

  • That is ashame. Thank you for the responce.

I think my watch will hold up.

I did a training run today. It was a 4 hour run with music. Started with 100% and ended with 82%.

I was running my music, GPS, and ANT+ to ans external HR monitor. A lot of the time I was running the map screen. I think I will be good.

  • Your battery may die before your watch's battery ;-)

    Good luck on your run!

  • If you are connecting to Strava, you can add a second runner after the fact.
