I have a 935 about 2 months old. Why is it not providing 1km splits on my runs? It does provide 1km splits on my rides.

Probably because you did not enable the auto-laps function in the Running activity profile of your watch, but rather just in the Cycling activity settings. Have a look at your User Manual for the details:
