GPX or TCX file can't save in Windows or Android Connect. Receiving 'An error occurred with your upload. Please try again.'

I haven't seen any good solutions to fixing   when attempting to import a .GPX or .TCX file. I created the route in Strava and exported it both ways. The route can be imported into Gaia and it shows up in connect. When I push the done button on either the android or the windows connect app I get the same message. Importing a .GPX that I downloaded from the web from a friend works. It looks like this is a common problem with no clear answer in the forum. Please help.

  • The .GPX file I successfully transferred to Connect and downloaded to my Garmin 5X yesterday does not download today. I get the same 'An error occurred with your upload, Please try again

  • Not sure whether it is this case, but for exampe at activities, you can import the file for the same activity only once. You'd need to delete the originally imported activity, or edit its date to be able importing it again.

  •  I got the upload to work when I turned on my phone's wifi. Not sure why that is a Connect limitation as it was not an issue with uploading the course on the Gaia app. With only the LTE phone connection and bluetooth turned on the course would show on the map in Connect on the andriod, but would not save.

Check out your data and background data settings for Garmin Connect in your phone's settings. You may have banned consumption of data by GC.

I have the sam3 troubles... can hou help me?

  • If you are importing a course GPX file, you have to use the Import function on the Courses page (see the rigth bottom corner of the white box), not the oneunder the cloud icon at the top of GCW!

  • Today was my first day with a new Garmin edge 830. Garmin did not make it intuitive or easy to find the import for a gpx prepped and shared by a friend (on a Garmin). His gpx imported fine into strava, komoot, but not into Garmin on windows. Over and over. I tried another solution here - a cloud utility to add timestamps, in gpx, tcx, same problem. Is it that Garmin are rubbish on Windows? Thanks for this tip, turning off wifi on the iphone fixed it. I worked in IT developing systems for many years, the error message here is dreadful. Garmin please provide better handling of this error condition.

  • You say Garmin on Windows. Do you mean Garmin Connect Web in a web browser on a Windows machine? Did you use the Import function here: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/courses

    What was the error message?

Since you've added the route to Strava you can just mark it with a star and it will be available in your device automatically as soon as you sync the Edge with Garmin Connect.
