Active calories too high

Issue occurred since Saturday 8th Feb. Active calories for steps are reading way too high. Very frustrating as I link with MFP for help with kcal intake for training purposes.

Prior to Saturday, 10k steps was 287 kcal burned, more believable than 9k steps and 800kcal from yesterday.

Is this an issue since last update. Anyone else? Have forerunner 645 music.

Thanks.

  • Prior to Saturday, 10k steps was 287 kcal burned, more believable than 9k steps and 800kcal from yesterday.

Did you compare the heart rate graphs for both days? The HR is the main factor in calculating the energy burn throughout the day. You cannot convert steps to Calories directly, you need to know the HR. The higher HR, the higher energy demands.

  • Good point to check HR.

Today, 3k steps so far and suggests I have 165kcal active calories. Last Friday, 10k steps total, 287kcal active calories.

Heart rate max is 120 for both days and steady throughout day. Pottering around house with 2 kids Joy

There's been a sudden increase this last week which has made me question its accuracy. Especially when 9k steps gave me 800 active calories with a heart rate max of 130.

  • The average HR is not that much informative. You'd need to calcluate how many minutes you've spent in individual HR zones in both days to be able comparing them. The energy consumption also depends on your personal data like the gender, age, weight, height, and activity class, so if you recently changed any of those, it can influence the calculation too.
