cannot download garmin connect from the app store

I have recently bought a new android phone (Ulefone Note 7). It runs Android 9.0 Pie. The Google App store says that the device is not compatible with the app. I thought that Garmin connect was compatible with any Android is running 5 or higher.

Didn't you mistake Garmin Connect Mobile for Garmin Connect IQ? The IQ version is compatible only with devices of newer generations, so if you do not have any IQ-enabled device, install the Garmin Connect Mobile app, instead.

I'm having a problem downloading the Garmin Connect app. It is saying that the app is not available in my country

You should be able to get the app through a VPN.Alternatively, you should be able to pick up the app from an apk site.
