Vivoactive 3 Huawei P30 connecting issue

Hi,

I hope someone can help me - I'm highly frustrated already.

I have trouble connecting my vivoactive 3 to my huawei p30. When both loose connection I always have to remove the watch from Garmin Connect, turn of the watch and the phone, restart both and connect it new. Every time 30 minutes work. So annoying. Isnt there a easier way? With my old watch and my iPhone I only had to open the App and they were reconnecting automatically.

The app is always running in the back. But I loose the connection when I am to far away from the phone or when I put the phone to flight mode in the night. That I loose connection is normal and not the issue. The issue is more that it is so hard to get the connection back.

Thank you so much for your help.

  • Have you been able to fix this? Mine is doing the same since the latest P30 updates.

Factory resetting the watch worked for a day or so and now back to not being able to syn reliably

  • I returned the watch because I was too annoyed. I thought that I can buy it once again when they fixed it..

I'm having exactly the same issue since the recent Huawei P30 OS upgrade to V10.0.0.

I use Flight Mode in the evenings and every morning I have the same problem! The Garmin Bluetooth connect seems to be broken every time!

I have to keep restarting devices and removing and re-pairing. This is a pain!

Has anyone found a solution? Is it Huawei or Garmin? Garmin please comment!

I suspect we may need to wait for OS v 10.1 to fix it.

  • I assume it was a major update ? I always wipe the cache partition on a phone when a major OS update was performed. There is a description on steps you can try here : https://thedroidguy.com/fix-huawei-p30-bluetooth-connection-problems-bluetooth-not-working-1104602 . I have no issues on my Samsung, so no experience, but perhaps try some of the suggestions there.

@hhasert Thanks for your advice! Yes I think it must have been as a result of the (major) upgrade. I updated the Garmin firmware but this didn't work - I had to do this manually as my Garmin at that point had not been able to connect. This didn't have much affect. Clearing the Android Cache seems to be working though! Holding thumbs!

  • If you still experience problems, go to the details of Garmin Connect in Google Play store and perform an update of the app. There was an update released today that helps with the connectivity issues of Huawei phones. When you then go, in Garmin Connect menu to Settings and scroll down to the Version, it should show 4.27.1 (as of today)

@trux thanks so much for your feedback. I think clearing the cache (@hhasert) did the trick but I also think the update you recommended will hopefully be the solution for the "normal" user.

  • Thanks for this.

    I've ended up:

    • clearing the app cache and data.
    • uninstalling the app
    • clearing the Android Partition Cache
    • Reinstalled the App
      • was prompted by the new updated
      • installed the update
    • paired the watch

now I'll wait and see if it is fixed :)

  • Hi is everything working fine for you now?

  • fingers crossed I've not had any problems since doing the above :)
