Step counter in Garmin Connect app

Does Garmin Connect app on phone has automatic step counter?

I carry my phone in pocket most of the time, and I don't have Fitbit or iwatch or similar to sync. So, why can't the app have a feature to track steps, like any other step tracking app like Samsung health. This way, I don't need to get another device or app to track my steps.

  • i wear it for spirts but would like my mobile phone to count the steps

Use one of the countless phone apps to count the steps. Or get a Vivoki or Vivofit 3 or 4 (as  suggested). They are small enough to keep them on you all the time, and they cost nothing in comparison to MK1.

Garmin Connect won't include steps from the phone, for the previously mentioned reasons.

  • It's perfectly credible. I don't wear my Garmin device at work on my wrist, i wear a cheap throw away watch as it often get's heavily contaminated with biologically hazardous waste. It's not a big deal for me to carry my phone in my pocket though as it's in my pocket away from anything that can contaminate it, and it's easier to clean. I would love a step counting feature in the garmkn connect app. It seems like it would be pretty simple to have the app count steps from your phone whenever it's not connected to another garmin device, and just use the device when it is connected. I've been searching for a solution, and it seems I'm not the only one who would like a feature like this.

Additionally, why attack someone's credibility? It's just a rude response to a legitimate question.

Then why is it a deal to carry the watch in your pocket too?

    Additionally, why attack someone's credibility?

I do not know where it happened. I am not aware that anyone here would attack the creditibility of someone. Garmin is simply contractually bound, and will not allow any other source of steps data than their own devices, because any external source of data, phones including, would not allow them to fulfill their duties.

  • I would love to be able to add steps from my iPhone as well. My work does not allow me to wear a watch at work but I have a company iPhone which could be counting my steps

  • My work does not allow me to wear a watch at work

Not even in the pocket or on the ankle?

  • I feel the same. I have a Fenix 6 , I use it to run or play golf, but I have a nice analog watch which I much prefer when I'm not doing some sports . And I don't. Want to be bothered by an other item. Like anyone, I'm having my phone with me most of the time..

And I like the Garmin App. That's why I think it would be nice for it to get my steps. I don't want too many devices or too many Apps. Google Fit is not really good enough.

  • Why wouldn't it be credible?

I work in a pharmaceutical factory (not aseptic) and the dress discipline prevents anyone from wearing any jewellery or watches but it allows you to carry your phone. We wear special clothes with no pockets in case you ask.

I also wonder if there is a way that Garmin connect could count my steps in the factory and add them to the daily total.

  • Because I would like to have my steps totalled in just one app, so I get credit for all my steps! I wear my vivoluxe to work, but absolutely not while working out. Since my Garmin device won't connect to Google Fit, or to Fitbit, my steps are not aggregated.
