Basic weight calculation is wrong

Hi,

I was checking the weight calculations on my app and  it seems it showing wrong calculations for total weight change. I mean if you minus the weight from first of January till the end of the month, you will get total weight difference but the app is showing some other number. Is this app using some other Science for it?

  • From the data I see on my app, I'd tell that the monthly weight difference refers to the difference of the average weights between the current and the preceding month. Except of the first two months of my history - in the first month it is comprehensible, since there is no preceding month, and in the second month the comparision is excluded probably because the preceding month was incomplete.

And frankly told, comparing monthly averages makes much more sense than comparing just the weights of the last (or the first) days of the months. The weight fluctuation from one day to another can be often in the order of kilograms, so the calculation with montly averages is much more informative and more accurate.

I think something else is going on and I think I have figured it out. In my case, for some weird reason, it is comparing the weight difference from 13th December to 13th January for the month of January. Whereas it should compare from 1st of January to 31st.

  • Whereas it should compare from 1st of January to 31st.

Where is it written that it should compare the beigning and the end of the month? They can choose whatever method they find suitable, so using the middle of the month as referrence would not be worse than showing the change from the first to the last day of the month. However, as I wrote, the values shown on the 12 months stats page are clearly the deltas of the monthly averages. Just check the averages of the months and compare them with the shown changes. Or post a screenshot of the 12 months overview, and we can check it for you.

Ok I understand now it's showing the delta of month average but it's a bit misleading. Or maybe they should give an option to check the monthly gain or loss instead of comparing the averages.

As I already wrote, due to the fluctuations of the weight, that can be up to several kilograms between two data entries (from one day to the next one), using the monthly averages is much more revealing the true trend, than just taking two weights of the starting and the ending day of the month - those can be each just some immediate peaks or lows, hence comparing them would be often totally misleading, and useless.

Right! That's true and thank you for your time.
