Garmin's Strength Workout Discussion

Anyone else using Garmin's pre-made strength workouts, especially people with past strength training experience?

I'm using the "30-Minute Blast" a few times a week, modified to add a repeat loop of the last two exercises (hammer curls & tricep press-downs). It seems to hit a lot.

I'm a novice and sure there are technically "better" programs (Phrak Greyskull, Wendler 5/3/1, whatever) but I'm going to try Garmin's for a while assuming "perfect is the enemy of good" - I find Garmin's plans easy to integrate into my life.

FYI, the one I mentioned is:

Repeat x3

8 reps barbell bench press

rest

12 reps dumbbell fly

rest

Rest

Repeat x3

8 reps partial lockout

rest

8 reps reverse grip barbell row

rest

Rest

Repeat x3

8 reps barbell back squat

rest

8 reps Smith machine overhead press

rest

Rest

Repeat x4

(I added this repeat)

12 reps dumbbell hammer curl

rest

8 reps triceps press down

rest

Cool-Down

  • I just made a few strength workouts of my own.  One for lower body (legs), upper body (arms, shoulders, upper back), and one for core (abs, glutes, lower back).  None of the pre-made ones really had what I was looking for.I typically go 3 or 4 times a week and would just alternate between the 3.  However, premade workouts can become kind of an issue if you have a busy gym, because the equipment you need may not be available.  That last few times I've gone, I just selected strength training on the watch and hit go without selecting a workout first.  I track my reps and the amount of weight as I go like normal.  When I'm done I use the Connect app and go back to add in what lift each of the reps were.  I typically do 5 sets of 10 reps for each so it's not too difficult to remember what I did.  Usually the amount of weight is a pretty good indicator of what lift I was doing.  I've honestly enjoyed the latter more just because it gives me more freedom and ability to throw in different things as I go.
