Wattbike zwift Fenix6

I have a fenix 6 and Wattbike atom I use Zwift to upload wattbike sessions to Garmin.  This works pretty seamlessly via apple tv.

My frustration is that none of the uploaded information appears or is used by my Fenix  so viewing recent activity shows only activities recorded via the watch in my case only running.  Traing load and other details are also only based on what is recorded by the watch. My option is to record the workouts via the watch but then I see no way that the virtual "goodies" provided by zwift, elevation and virtual gps position would be recorded.  How can I get all the data I want onto one place (on my watch) and how can I get my training load etc to truly represent the work I do.

I'm super impressed with the garmin fenix6  as I am with the atom.  It just seems there is a "data disjoint," between the two.  Would a zwift app on the watch solve this.....needs someone with a bigger brain than me.....

  • Data from other devices (except Garmin accessories) will not be uploaded to the watch. On the other hand, you can view the data from all your connected devices centrally in Garmin Connect Mobile or GC Web. The level of the integration depends on the integration of the concerned application (Zwift in your case).

  • Thank you for replying.  This is exactly what I see.  You are entirely correct using GC mobile or web does display most of the information but items such as training effect and traing status are misreported both on garin connect and on the watch.  For example, my traing status shows low aerobic shortage.  If I go.and do a long aerobic workout on my wattbike the training status remains the same.  The calculations are obviously done on the device rather than on the server.  At the end of the day, the data landing on the server regardless of source is the same.  It would be nice to see seamless integration with calculations done server side when not done on device.  It is after all how strava et al produce metrics regardless of device used to upload.

  • Yes, you are right, server side calculations would be certainly better, but unfortunately currently not available. I bet the system will eventually evolute in that direction. In the meantime only using a 3rd party service such as Strava or similar, is the available alternative.

  • Great, thanks for the conversation, my final point is that I am pretty loyal to all aspects of Garmin hardware and software, I really enjoy the fact that the Garmin Connect stuff feels a little more "lifestyle" and a little less "athlete" than others, I don't want to go to strava to find my "training load"  and then to GC to see my sleep patterns....I'm amazed that others (and Garmin) have not picked upon this.  Again nice talking with you and thanks for confirming my thoughts.

  • There's a workaround for this that's only slightly tedious: log your activity on both the watch and Zwift, with Zwift syncing to Garmin Connect.

You'll end up with two virtually identical activities in Garmin Connect: one from the watch (or Edge cycle computer), and one from the linked app. (Zwift, in this case, but same applies to ErgData for rowing)

Then, you delete the activity in Garmin Connect that came from the Garmin device, leaving only the Zwift ride which has all your detailed ride data: distance, elevation, HR etc.

Training Load data is "sticky" so even after you delete the duplicate data in Connect, your training status will be properly reflected.

Your ride data won't be on the F6 but will exist in Garmin Connect and I suppose you could copy the data to your Fenix if you actually wanted it there for some reason.

  • CJ, thanks for taking the time to help.  I'll have a play around with it and see if this helps.  NB, some of the issues I mention in my original post seem to have been resolved.  If my last activity was a Zwift ride, this now shows up on the watch and intensity minutes are included in my totals regardless of the system through which they are recorded.

So, Garmin do seem to be moving forwards with these issues but are yet to match Strava in calculating TL server side and removing this issue.

Highly annoying when I Iook at the F6 and see "no status" or worse still "detraining" in the window, knowing I've been working hard on the Wattbike.

Apologies for the delay in response.

    Best
