Steps are counted during swim activity on vivoactive 3

I've recently noticed that when swimming in the pool my garmin vivoactive 3 is counting steps even though it is tracking my swim activity that I've started.

Did not notice it before so it might be current firmware glitch (ver. 7.2)

Can this issue be fixed?

  • It is not a bug, it is a feature.

Wear the watch under the swim cap, or on the neck (e.g. with a longer strap), if you mind the extra steps

  • It makes absolutely no sense to wear the watch under a swim cap since it won't be able to record neither laps nor strokes.

I guess it should be fixed by firmware update. Watch should not count swimming strokes as steps. It's that simple.

Since I swim mostly in open water, wearing it under the cap is the necessity for example when swimming breaststroke, otherwise the GPS can't work.

Similarly, at underwater rugby, I cannot wear it on the hand, beaucause of the possibility of injuring someone, or damaging the device.

As for the strokes, you are right, but laps will be detected by the watch accelorometer without problems  - the change of direction is the same regardless where you wear the watch.

Perhaps, but we, the forum users, cannot help you with that. We can only offer available solutions and workarounds. Go and persuade the deciders and developers at Garmin that it must be the way you think. It is futil to complain here.
