Vivoactive HR: no notifications

Former Member

I know this question has been asked hundreds of times but I can't figure it out, here it goes:

I bought a Vivoactive HR a couple of years ago and never bothered with the smart noitfications but now, due to a change in lifestyle, I really want those notifications.

I followed every support page I could find and enabled every setting (in the app, in the phone and on the watchà I could find for the garmin connect app but to no avail. Is there some secret setting I'm missing?? Is my phone compatible?

My phone: Moto G5S plus

Thanks in advance,

Jens

I have the same phone and the same problem. I've been trying to synchronize my watch with my phone for two weeks. unsuccessfully

Mine synchronizes no problem, I just can't get the notifications to work.

  • Did you check Android Settings >> Notifications, and Android Settings >> Apps >> Connect >> Notifications ? Also verify whether all permissions are enabled in Android Settings >> Apps >> Connect >> Permissions. And in Garmin Connect, in your Profile Settings make sure the option "Device Upload" in Privacy Settings is enabled too.

I did all those things, still nothing.

  • And did you verify whether Notifications are enabled in your watch too? Not sure where exactly it is in your watch, but with Garmin Instinct it is accessible through the middle left button's long hold (Menu) >> Settings >> Phone >> Smart Notifications. You can also retry pairing the phone again, when you are there - it is just the next choice in the same menu (at least with Garmin Instinct)

  • Also please note that some phones may turn off Bluetooth to save battery power, when in standby or sleep mode. I would check battery and data saving options of your phone too, or test whether notifications are being passed to your watch at least when the phone is awaken and BT on.

I've enabled every notification option under the smart notifications menu. I also tried repairing the phone, still nothing.

battery optimalisation is off for connect. I don't even get notifications when the phone is awake and bluetooth is on. The only notification that I recieve is the one that says 'phone connected' but that's not from the phone.

  • Have you restarted the phone? Also, can you try on a different phone  Or on an iPhone or iPad? Someone in your family that would allow you to test? I'm also seeing several posts regarding Bluetooth on the G5. I know you say you can sync over Bluetooth, but something's not right. I feel like it might be your phone.

The G5S runs on oreo (Android 8.1) and sadly that's the newest android version we have at home.
