silent notifications or filter rules for notification

Is it possible to filter the watch notifications?

I know about per android app filtering, but I would like to have on a lower level. To add some manual rules (even with coding) to filter which ones can pass.

Also many Android notifications don't make a sound but add an item to the phone status bar. Filtering these out from the watch this would be great. E.g. whatsapp muted conversations, data connection lost, etc.

Bumping this. We would like a setting to prevent silent notifications pushing to the Garmin device please. If they don't make sounds on our phone, why would we want them to make sounds on our watch?…

+1. Garmin Connect should respect Android's "silent" notification categorization.

+1. Garmin Connect should respect Android's "silent" notification categorization.

IIUC, this should be pretty easy to implement. https://developer.android.com/reference/android/service/notification/NotificationListenerService.html describes how you can do this with a simple manifest change.

+1 Silent notifications should not immediately show up on the watch and vibrate but silently show up in the notifications widget

Over 4 years and still not implemented!? Bumpedy bump bump!

Example use case: I have a few group message threads that are noisy and unimportant. They are customized within Google Messages as silent on my phone. It seems I have no way to exclude them from watch notifications while leaving other Messages notifications to the watch active.

This is at least somewhat fixed on Android 12 and above. The control isn't very granular, but you can filter out any notification that goes into the "Silent" part of your notification shade, which is good enough for me (as you're able to set a Channel in Android to Silent in the app's notification settings).

Open the Settings app
In the search bar, type "Notification Access"
Navigate to the Notification Access page. This is kind of buried. For me, on Android 14, this is "Apps > Special app access > Device & app notifications"
Click "Connect"
Uncheck the "Silent" checkbox

For reference, my pixel 5 running android 14 had these settings very near where you described yours.

We're not saying we don't want the silent notifications on our phones. Just saying we don't want them pushed to our watch. The OP even mentioned "per android app filtering" which is what you're talking about.
