App crashes when I click on challenges

When using Garmin Connect, the app crashes every time I click on or try to join a group challenge. The page will not load, but will instead freeze and the entire app must be force closed after several seconds. I have been able to join the Garmin weekly step challenge and view that page, but every challenge that is hosted by a group will crash the app. Is this a known bug? Is there an available solution? I sent the error report to Garmin several days ago and have not yet received a response.

  • Any chance you have fixed this problem? I experience the same.

  • I am a member of several groups - the Challenge screen at the smaller groups, with just up to around a dozen of members  load instantly. The bigger one with some 350 members takes about half a minute to load - that's because avatars and other details of all members are being loaded. But it does not crash, it just waits till everything loads, and only then it displays the page.

So if your group is large and/or your Internet connection slow, it may take quite a long time to load. You better test it when you are connected to a fast Internet router over WiFi, or have really good G4 signal.

You may also consider joining the Challenge over the web app instead - it works differently there.

Just happened to me this week (May 2020). All of a sudden when I click on Challenge it forces the entire app to quit. How do I report this to Garmin?!

Started happening to me as soon as they added these new badges to challengers, I’ve got an iPhone 7 (if that makes a difference?)

I have an iPhone 8.  Yes, something with the addition to badges connected to challenges.  Was tempted to delete app and reinstall it, but too risky to lose all of my stats and badges.  I guess I just won't be joining any challenges until it gets fixed ;(

  • Just happened to me a few minutes ago. App completely crashes when trying to access challenges. I joined a challenge yesterday and now I tried Roa es it and it just crashes. Using iOS 13.5. All apps an OS are recently updated.  I’ve deleted the app. Reinstalled. Nothing. Deleted it. Restarted iOS. Reinstall. Nothing. It still crashes. Can’t use nor view Challenges anymore.  It sucks. And, by the way, can’t access Garmin Connect vía mobile browser (wtf?). Tried edge, chrome, Firefox and safari and couldn’t even get the login screen in any of them. It just stalls. I’m try a windows pc tomorrow (who uses one any more?). Hey if fixed, GARMIN!!!!

UPDATE:  June 3, 2020.     WARNING!  Don't make the same mistake that I did!!

I received this email from Garmin Support. (see below)

I followed the instructions and LOST ALL OF MY DATA when I signed back into my Connect app.
All of my badges are gone. All of my running stats.  EVERYTHING.
Even my customized menu returned to default settings.
As if that weren't bad enough, clicking on the "Challenges" button STILL forces the app to quit.

    ----

Thank you for contacting Garmin - I am happy to help.

Please go to your app store and ensure that the Connect app is up to date. If it is, please sign out of Connect and then back and see if you are able to view Challenges.

Let me know if this helps and feel free to reach out to me with any further questions.

    Thank you for choosing Garmin,

  • You have not lost anything. You simply signed up a new account, instead of signing in into your old one. Sign up and sign in are two diametrically different functions. Simply sign out, and sign in back with the original credentials to get into your old account.

    HOLY SMOKES, BatMan (aka Trux).

When I followed the prompts on my phone, it was treating me/ the watch like a New account.  So, I did indeed SIGN UP again.  Per your instructions, I logged out and SIGNED IN with my original credentials.... and behold ... my glorious stats and badges were there waiting for me ;)

I don't know who you are, but THANK YOU for being around.  Garmin Support should pay you a commission ;)

    Back to running....

  • Glad it helped that easily
