Why does Connect on Android forces the use of Goggle Maps?

I have an Edge 830. Why does Connect on Android forces the use of Goggle Maps to use the "Last Known Location" feature?

I have the Google Maps disabled/uninstalled on my Android and though I do have other gps software available on my phone (set has default), not having Google Maps makes the Connect useless for the "Last Known Location" in case the device ejects. It simply says as in the bellow image, "Download Google Maps"....

Would it be possible to have the user chosing which Androind gps app the last know location could use?
