Distance in imported MapMyRide/TCX files wrong

Brand new here. I have an Edge 130 on order will arrive in a few days.

Meanwhile, I am importing some of my more important routes from MapMyRide to Garmin Connect. When I import the TCX file, the distance does not display correctly; typically it shows about half the distance of the actual ride even though the route displays correctly. This also happened when I imported from MMR into Strava. 

Anybody know:

  1. Why this happens.
  2. If there is a way to correct the figures. 

I can't find any option to edit the numbers, only the title of the route.
