Garmin doesn't stay connected with the Connect app on my Huawei Smart Plus 2019

Hi,

The last days my Fenix 5s plus doesn't stay connected with the Connect app on above mentioned Huawei phone.

When I started to use my phone I read all the tips and tricks on this forum and I used it. My phone and watch did what they were supposed to do.

But now... not possible to get it connected without restarting my phone and watch.

Can anyone help me out?

I found one setting in the garmin app yesterday that seem to help. If you in the garmin connect app go into the devices view, and long press on the fenix watch you get several options:

    abort

    remove unit

    synchronize

    update connection.

I did "update connection" where it asks for a new BT pin code. Doing that seem to have helped for me. Now my watch have been connected for almost 24 hours. That has not happened in a very long time for me. I have been doing things that seem to have removed the connection before. Used bluetooth headset and also the connection stayed a live during the night. I hope it will keep working.

The other thing I did was to disable the power management for the Garmin connect app in the phones power settings. Not doing that will of course mess things up. But that was not eough for me. Almost every time I had to go into the connect app, and then turn the phones bluetooth on and off for the watch to connect.

I really hope this "update connection" really is a stable solution. A bit to early to say, but almost 24 hours i a record at least.

I have the connect app in swedish so the wording in the menus is probably a bit different, but I think you understand what I mean.

  • If Garmin is blaming Huawei (or any other phone manufacturer for that reason) Garmin need to resolve this with Huawei. They can not only tell this to individual users. Garmin sells a very expensive device stating that it works with Android. They can not blame one of the biggest phone producer in the world. If the fenix accessorie is not compatible with certain phones Garmin need to step up and refund us.

Just... no. Garmin isn't responsible for Huawei not adhering to standards.

You only have to look at people with Samsung Galaxy or Google Pixel phones to see the problem isn't on Garmin's end.

Good on you for posting a solution though.

I'd also recommend the post Trux linked to that suggests disabling Huawei's aggressive battery management scheme: https://forums.garmin.com/apps-software/mobile-apps-web/f/garmin-connect-mobile-andriod/151046/solved-huawei-push-notifications
