Connect 4.23.1 - When Will They Make It Right?

I've been struggling for months... many many months... With Garmin Connect NOT 'Connecting' (it's in the name folks) with my Garmin products.

I frequently have to remove each device from the app, then tell the device to forget my phone, then reinitiate a new connection like the first time before they will 'connect' with each other... Only to have to repeat this same sequencec only days later when Garmin 'Connect' starts refusing to 'connect' again!

This has been an incredibly tedious and time consuming love/hate affair each time for each device (I have many).

And here we are, nearly 12 months later, and many versions newer, and still the same issues exist.'

Now Connect requires 8-12 minutes every time I open it just to populate my devices list. And if I select any one from the list then return to the list a moment later, I have to wait another 10+ minutes for the list to populate again!!!

I know I am not the only frustrated user. Many of my friends just give up and stop buying and using your products, instead chooing one of the few remaining competitor devices...

  • My first reaction is that you sure are invested in Garmin.

This is what I can say. With the exception of wayward updates that have happened from time-to-time, I don't have the problems you describe. Actually, the recent 4.2.23 has been bad for me.

However, I have noticed a few things about connecting.

    1. When there is more than 1 potential BT connection, GCM gets confused and doesn't connect at all so if you have 2 devices with the Garmin device paired on them, you could have problems.
    2. BT on iOS seems to connect quicker than Android. There have been times when I wondered why I showed as connected yet I couldn't seem to sync. It turned out that I was connected to my wife's iPad rather than my phone.
  • I own a Vivoactive 3 since August and turn off both my phone (Huawei P20 lite) and the VA3 over night.

In the morning I turn on both devices and typically Garmin Connect app will not connect to the VA3.

Doing the following steps (sometimes repeatedly) usually helps:

    1. turn off Bluetooth in the phone settings - Garmin Connect app will now display a message "Bluetooth is deactivated"
    2. wait 10 seconds
    3. press the message in Garmin Connect app, Android will ask you to allow the app to activate Bluetooth
    4. after allowing Garmin Connect app will connect to the VA3, if not go to step 1.

Most interesting, once connected I do not have connection issues during the day.

  • Josef,

With my old phone, I used to have to do what you do. Since upgrading to a new phone 2 years ago, I haven't had to do it even once.
