Sleep tracking issues

I got a new fenix 6 sapphire as a replacement to my fitbit ionic. I must tell you that the sleep tracking is not even near the ionic.. For the amount of money it should be doing it better than the fitbit. For example.. I went to sleep after 1145 and the app showed already in light sleep at 1125 and also woke up a couple of times to open the door in between and the watch didn't get those times.

Curious if this issue has been resolved with your Fenix 6? I am having the same issue with my vivoactive 4 and with sleep monitoring high on my list of "must haves" I am thinking of returning at this point... Do appreciate your insight.

I have the same problem with the VivoHR. It replaced my FitBot Versa HR and I wish I stayed with FB. Garmin's sleep technology is so ridiculously inaccurate that it's useless. too bad I bought it mostly to track sleep.

  • It looks like the reliability of the sleep detection is quite individual, and likely comparably bad at Garmin as at FitBit. If you google "fitbit sleep detection problems" or similar terms, you get as many hits as for Garmin, if not more. For me the sleep detection on my Garmin Instinct works always flawlessly, so I do not think there is any fundamental problem. Perhaps experimenting a bit with the tightness of the strap, changing the wrist, or even trying to put it on the ankle, or testing it on another person, might help to find the way it works better for you too.

My Fenix 6 is new and the same thing is happening. I love stats and have been glued to them but last night I was awake for nearly two hours, got up, did some work and read some of my book and apparently I was asleep for the whole time.  There are obvious issues with the other models too so perhaps it just can’t be done.  Bit disapppointed in that.

I just got the Fenix 6 pro. After coming from fitbit for daily tracking and suunto as tri tracking. I was hoping to get it all from the Garmin. It all works except the recovery tracking and sleep tracking.  You Garmin engineers really need to improve this, it is even worse then the suunto version. Look at fit it they do a okaish job. My suggestion let me indicate a sleep cycle and let me alter a sleep cycle and keep the data need to calculate or recalculate the cycle 24h. So when I alter start and stop times you use the data to recalculate. Just take movement as awake or going to the toilet in the recalculation.

Love the rest of the watch but this just really sucks. I think some cheapo chinees watch will do a better job.
