Garmin Connect App not saving courses

Hi, I searched the forum, but can't find an answer. If i download a gpx on my Android device and open it with the Garmin Connect app, the course shows, but I can't save it within the Garmin Connect App. Also, if i create a course in the Connect App, i can't save it. If i press "done" it says" "Oops, Looks like there was a problem saving this course, please try again." I can't find any solution, other than to use the web-version of Garmin Connect, but that's not ideal on a small smartphone screen.

Yes, it's been doing this for a while. Sometimes it works but many times I get the same error. Makes the app useless.

Yes, it's been doing this for months. Occasionally it works. Makes app useless for me.

  • I have the same issue, it used to work fine until a couple of weeks ago for me.

Best workaround is surfing to https://connect.garmin.com/ like you suggested. I used routeCourse previously, but that is also quite some effort, and not free anymore.

Best workaround is creating a hotlink to connect.garmin.com/.../courses like you suggested and going from there. I used routeCourse previously, but that is also quite some effort, and not free anymore.

I hope they fix this soon.

I can't believe this doesn't work still? I tried using the Garmin Connect web app as suggested but after installing Garmin Express to sync the route with my device, Garmin Express says there's a problem and can't connect to Garmin servers.

This is so frustrating, one of the features I decided to go with Garmin was this one and it doesn't work at all!!! I have got a good looking Fenix 5 plus where I can just see the time because I can't use it for my routes anymore.

Same problem. Had been working ok until today. Then I noticed the file name for my new course was longer than those i'd created previously. So I renamed the file to a much shorter name, tried again - loaded into connect, hit "Done" and it worked fine. No idea how repeatable that fix is, or whether it's just completely random and had nothing to do with length of file name, but worth letting folks know in case it helps anyone else.

  • The web app solution indeed doesn't work anymore for me either. Renaming the course also doesn't fix it.

I went back to my previous workaround, using RouteCourse: https://dynamic.watch/ You need the paying version for it to work ($10 per year), and it is a bit of a hassle:

    - open gpx file with dynamicWatch app to save it to the server.
    - go to dynamicwatch website to give it a name if the file comes directly from an app like Gaia GPS (skip if you just opened a gpx file)
    - Open routeCourse app on your watch and download the route

had the same problem. i seem to have found the solution for now. close the app. then first open the app, then open your GPX file with the connect app and save it. Not directly open the gpx whilst not having started the app first
