Garmin Edge should be an app!

I would like to see a Garmin dev or product engineer comment on this.  I have a Fenix 5, speed and cadence sensors and looking to get power sensors.  With that I will then need the Edge to get the most data thrown at me during my MTB rides.  So here lies my delima.  I have a Google Pixel XL with the Connect app on it.  Why doesn't the app have the ability to be an Edge device?  It makes no sense for you guys to have the Edge product when this could be an app.  You could charge $5/month for the app and people would like it and you would make more money than having us buy another cell phone type device.  Thoughts???

  • I have the exact opposite point of view. I don't want to use my phone for that while riding. I already use it for Livetrack and to play music (via speaker) when riding alone. I'd much rather have a dedicated device.
If you want an app, why don't you just use Strava or Komoot?
