Samsung phone: any way to enable notifications from apps in Knox Secure Folder?

Hello,

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge device. It has a Knox-powered "Secure Folder" / "Vault" feature which allows running apps in different context completely as if two different phones.

GCM can pass notification from non-Knoxed apps to my Fenix 5X+ quite well, still it cannot see (and it does not pass) notifications from my 'Knoxed" apps. Is there any way to improve GCM to work with notification from Secure Folder apps too? Or, am I missing any configuration options?

I have gmail configured for corporate account in the Secure Folder context and I would like to get its notifications. It is somehow possible in Samsung-native environment (it works with Samsung's watches). Samsungs' watch notification settings have two separate icons for gmail (one for secure app notifications, another for "regular" one). GCM has only one icon.

But I think the problem is not with the watch but with the phone: Garmin Connect and / or Knox Workspace.
But maybe there is no solution as it depends on the configuration mode implemented by the Knox Workspoce administrator in my company.
Well if anyone has any idea on the start of the solution ..... I'm interested :-)

  • I am not familiar with that app, but if it behaves as if you had two different acounts on the phone, you'll likely need to install and set up Garmin Connect in both accounts to get notifications from both of them.

Good idea ... that must be it!
But my company has blocked the applications installation in those WorkSpace ... Grrrrr!
    thanks anyway !

  • In that case the app does exactly what it should, and allows only what the admins allow. Makes sense. You'll have to ask the admins to permit GCM, or live with GCM just on your private account

  • The initial idea was to see notification generated by KNOX-contained apps on watch; not to run GCM inside KNOX-container. It is possible to see such notifications on Samsung wearables having their own mobile app running outside KNOX. It would suggest that the API for that exists in KNOX SDK* but I do not believe that low market demands would draw Garmin attention to that.

*Samsung app using some undocumented KNOX features would undermine the whole KNOX separation idea.
