Full time connection between phone and watch

Hello, I just got the forerunner 245, works great, no connections problems with my huawei P30 Pro. But does the watch always have to be connected with your phone to sync the data from all day? Or is it enough to sync the data when I want to check it, and can I see the data when the phone was not connected to the watch?

The watch does not need to be connected all the time, however to avoid loosing data the watch should be synced regularly (at least once in a couple of days), because the watch can hold only limited amount of activity data.
