disable Adaptive Battery on Moto G7 Power to maintain BT connection

The Garmin Connect Mobile (GCM) app on my brand-new Motorola Moto G7 Power, running Android 9 Pie, was not able to maintain a stable Bluetooth connection to my Garmin Edge 820. So no Live-Tracking, no Smart Notifications, not sync'ing immediately.

I think I finally found a solution:

Disable "Adaptive Battery" (AB). It looks like with this setting enabled the GCM app is not allowed to be running in the background continuously.

I do not know if this AB is specific to this Moto G7 Power, other models, or if it applies to all Android 9 Pie based Smartphones.

Just excluding the GCM app from AB was not sufficient, I had to disable it globally. This might be a bug in this Android 9 Pie build, or in the GCM mobile app, not using the Android 9 Pie APIs correctly. ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1473127.png

    Hey,
If you set the GCM on the exclude list of Battery Optimisation (system settings -> Applications and notifications), will that help to have a more stable BT connection?
  • I have the same issue on my Google Pixel 3. I have to turn off adaptive battery completely otherwise the livetrack "autostart" tick box just unticks itself after a while

If it doesn't work on the google version of android 9 I assume the problem will be present on most phones using Pie.

Like you said just excluding garmin connect from adaptive battery wasn't enough.

I suppose it could be a bug in android - i.e. its ignoring the request to not optimise certain apps.
