I hate this app

...or rather I hate the implementation of "smart notifications".

Every single time the Connect App updates it resets my smart notification preferences from the apps I actually want notifications from to ALL notifications. In the middle of a run and my watch is being because a game I papl has releaseda be level. What's that? There's some breaking news story? I don't care.

I only want to see notifications on things ideem to be important - calls and messages - but the app has updated itself and I didn't realise and again I have to go back into it to reset it to just the way I like it.

I've complained to Garmin about this stupid "feature" and they've told me "this is not something we can currently override as it by design to comply with any changes to notification settings with the app that have been updated."

So I'this Google forcing this, or is it a Garmin policy?

kingdave82 Is it your phone? I updated the latest version of GCM for Android about an hour ago I and it doesn't reset my notification preferences. I don't know why someone at Garmin told you this is by design as it doesn't happen to my LG or my wife's Samsung.

I hope it's my phone, and if you and your wife have yours set up in a particular way, please let me know!

This is the second phone I've had though with this problem - a Samsung S9+ and now 10+. And it happened with both a 235 and 645 attached to the S9 and just the 645 attached to the S10.

Garmin are adamant though that it is functioning as designed and notification preferences must reset after an update

No, just checked the apps we want notifications from and that's it. I don't recall doing anything special on the phone.
  • I approach this problem and all other GCM update problems from a different perspective. I don't let Android update GCM ! I have disabled automatic update for GCM (only app I've done this with) in the Google Play settings. There have been so many problems with GCM versions (think about the 6 months of headaches we went through with LiveTrack), Garmin puts out so many updates for which we can see no benefit and they won't advise what's been updated or improved, and new things seem to break each time. My solution is to stay with a known stable version until something of significant value has been released that makes it worth my while to update and put up with whatever might break in configurations in the process. I presently run 4.15 which is stable, LiveTrack works on all my devices, and I'm not dealing with the constant roll of versions.
