Livetrack discards course already ridden after extended stop

Since the upgrade to GCM 4.15.1 (Android phones) I've now noticed on multiple occasions that if we make an extended stop (30 minutes or more, say) during a ride, when I look at the Livetrack output when we finally get home, it only shows the track from where we resumed the ride after the stop. This happens for both my wife (Edge 1000, Sony XZ2 compact phone) and myself (Edge 1030, Google Pixel 2 phone). Both phones are running GCM 4.15.1. Both Edge units have auto sleep disabled, so that they don't power down during the stop, and they don't lose connection with the phones, which remain mounted on the handlebars next to the Edge units. This used not to be a problem - when I first purchased the Edge 1030 about a year ago, I could make a lunch stop during a long ride and Livetrack was not affected in this manner. The problem doesn't happen if we make a shorter stop - say 10 minutes or so.

Here's a screenshot of the Livetrack map from this morning's ride - nothing prior to our morning tea stop at the 66km point appears. Both the Edge 1000 and 1030 Livetrack have this problem - both units indicated that Livetrack commenced when we commenced the activity at kilometre zero.

  • I've had this occur just once 13 miles into a 20 mile ride, but a couple of minor versions ago, on a 2 minute 'comfort' stop. But not seen it since 4.15 came out.

I had the same problem again in a more extreme form this morning. Livetrack started and the invitation was sent out as normal when I started the activity on my 1030. I got caught in heavy rain on my way home, and forgot to stop the activity when I got home. After having a shower, when I found that the activity was still running I checked Livetrack for it on the website, and all it showed me was the blue dot indicating start of Livetrack and the red/black dot indicating the end right next to each other at my house. The entire route ridden had completely vanished.
  • That's really annoying. Is it still working right when live? i.e. showing your position "NOW" when out and about?

Yes, it shows my position while I'm out riding. I sent an invitation to myself this morning, checked a few times on the ride to see what Livetrack was showing, and it showed the ride up to the point where I checked. But...I had to stop about 10km from the end to fix a puncture. Once I'd fixed the puncture I checked Livetrack again, and everything prior to my present position had disappeared. When I got home I looked again before ending the activity, and Livetrack just showed the last part of the ride from where I'd fixed the puncture.

That's irritating. I notice my phone updated overnight to GCM 4.16. Wonder if that fixed anything? The cosmetic appearance of the 'dashboard' has changed slightly (that's the only reason I noticed it had updated). I have checked LIveTrack this morning and it worked fine for me. No stops though.

No, the problem persists with GCM 4.16.

This problem still happens with the latest 4.16.1 GCM on Android. Happens both with Livetrack on my wife's Edge 1000 connected to her Sony XZ2 phone and Livetrack on my Edge 1030 connected to my Pixel 2 phone. We stopped for about 5 minutes on our way home today to wait out a brief shower, and Livetrack for both of us discarded everything prior to that stop.

I wonder if it depends on the duration of the stop? (Either way it's a bug). I tried a very short comfort stop (maybe 1-2 minutes) the other day with no interruption in the Livetrack feed (on 4.16)
