Edge 520... calories seem too high

I did a moderate 40km, 750m elevation mtb ride last week.
the calories burned shows up at 3441. I use the Garmin hrm.

this is clearly not correct... any suggestions as to what may be wrong ? And the settings are correct for calories and and not kj
  • That does seem a bit high. I'm a 165 lb rider and have found over the years I burn 800 calories / hour when riding hard on road or mountain bike. Less than that of course if a mellow ride. These numbers came from my Polar HRM for decades before ever having a Garmin device and were corroborated when putting the ride details into an online calorie computer. My Edge 520 classically showed less than half that amount for all my rides which was absurdly low. I doubled my weight in my Garmin profile and the calorie computation comes in more reasonably close to a proper calorie computation.

First thing to check would be the weight you have in your Garmin profile. It greatly affects the calculation as it should.
  • Thanks, my weight is correct in the system..

it's only on the edge 520 as the caloryy count when I use my fenix 3 at gym looks to a lot more accurate..
