Sleep tracker Faulty

I have been using garmin watches since 2005. Recently I've updated my watch from Garmin forerunner 735xt to Garmin Fenix 5 plus. However, I was shocked that Garmin 735xt tracks sleep , deep and awake time much better than the new watch.

Since the integration of REM sleep Garmin's sleep tracking went to garbage. It almost never shows the correct wake/sleep times or at least doesn't count it. When I'm awake 30-40mins it's not counted. Since that integration Garmin shows 30-80mins more sleep than forerunner 735xt. Really bad and deep sleep has gone from 2-3hours to 40 minutes only. Sadly I've seen many discussions about this issue in different forums since last year but Garmin seems to be doing Nothing. Shall I move to a different brand next time?
  • Can't answer that, but if you are willing to invest the effort every day, you can prevent the advanced sleep tracking data from uploading:
disconnect watch from phone, go to sleep, connect watch to PC, remove contents of the SLEEP folder, connect watch to phone, sync, the app will report 'your device does not support advanced sleep tracking', and display the perfect spot-on sleep tracking as it used to be.
It isn't a perfect solution, sometimes the watch will record 'advanced sleep data' later during the morning and afternoon, and when that is synced it can mess up the data for that night, which requires editing the sleep data in the app.
NB: Only tested it with a Forerunner 935 and Connect Mobile 4.13.x some weeks ago. Things change often, both in the app and in the Connect backend software.
