Showing Route Taken on Map

My wife has just got a Forerunner 35.
She has loaded the Connect app on her android phone.

She uses the watch to track her distance when walking. Synchronises the app with her phone AFTER the walk is complete.
we are confused about how to show her route.
The Garmin site is not user-friendly. It shows that routes can be shown on overhead maps, but no instructions are readily available on how to do this.. It is possible to plot a new route (in other words a pre-planned route) online, but we are not interested in this, we just want to see the route she HAS taken.

However, in the android Connect app, there doesn't appear to be any link to show maps of any kind.

So, simple question -

Can we use the forerunner in it's normal mode, save the data at the end of the walk, and then synch with the phone AFTER the walk and view the route on a map?

If so, How?

AndyTake2 is your wife starting an activity when she goes for a walk? With most GPS devices they wont constantly track your position they will only start to track when you select an activity (not sure what options the 35 has) and start it. Then when you stop the activity and save it it will then transfer to connect when you sync. Then when you view the activity on connect i you had GPS switched on for the activity then you will see a map as soon as you go into the activity.

Thanks for the replies.
Yes, she has started an activity before actually going for a walk.
I think the issue is resolved now - it was a problem with software/firmware.

Yesterday she went for two walks as normal - the first was also the first using the forerunner 35.
After we loaded Connect on her phone, we synched it, but couldn't see any map.

Then the system updated the firmware on the 35.
We didn't synch her second walk because I was asking questions here.
She went for her morning walk today, then we synched (We???-me :) ) the 35.
Her first walk from yesterday has now disappeared (assuming because of the firmware update) but her second from yesterday and this mornings show ok, and the display on the connect app has changed so we can show the map.

AndyTake2 glad that it seems to be working now - I'm surprised that the first activity has disappeared off connect though - did it actually show on connect (albeit without a map)?

Yes, the original activity showed on Connect.
It was only when we viewed the next two that had disappeared.
weird, but that's computers for you :)
