Forerunner 35 - No Notifications to Samsung Galaxy A5 17

Hi

Im having an issue currently where i am not receiving any notifications on the forerunner 35, also weather data will not display. Phone is synced successfully to Garmin Connect App.

When trying to access smart permissions it prompts with an android deny or allow. When selecting allow it will come up with an app crash error, when selecting deny it will clear the screen and then list all of the phones apps with a toggle. These are all selected currently. I have also gone into the back end of app permissions on the phone to check all are enabled.

App has been updated today to latest version.

I am experiencing the exact same issue on my Samsung Galaxy A7 18 and have also checked all settings in the phone. I have even uninstalled and reinstalled the app to no avail. I have emailed Garmin Support as well but have not yet received a response from them. Any ideas or workaround would be appreciated.

UPDATE:

I have found a workaround for this issue:

Uninstall the GC app and then reinstall and sign in, but DO NOT ADD your device during the initial setup/configuration steps of the app. Skip that step. Once the app has been installed and you have signed in, go to Settings -> Smart Notifications. After about 2 seconds, you are prompted to allow access to notifications (but this is through the Android OS and not through the app.) Once you have granted access, you can set the app permissions in the GC app. Now add the device in the app (Garmin Devices -> Add Device). Lastly, make sure that your Garmin device also allows notifications (FR35: Settings -> Bluetooth -> Smart Notifications -> Turn On). And voila.
